हार नहीं मानूंगा, रार नहीं ठानूंगा,
काल के कपाल पे लिखता मिटाता हूं
गीत नया गाता हूं
Perhaps no other
description can encapsulate the personality of Atal Ji better than these few
lines. A leader who focused only on leading, in victory and in defeat, in ups
and downs and in happiness and despair. A leader who threw away the Prime Minister’s
post just to prove a point that he believed in democracy and wouldn’t
manipulate even a single vote in Parliament. A leader who never said quits in
the face of seemingly impossible odds. A person who never became bitter in the
face of betrayal and did what he had to do as can be seen during Kargil crisis.
A leader who changed the paradigm of development and meaning of welfare state
with a massive orbit shift in Government spending in infrastructure and
innovative ways of raising resources. A leader who firmly stood for the
plurality of India while emphasizing the oneness of its underlying dharma. A leader who was mild in manner,
like wild fire in oratory and steadfast in resolve to make India an equal
player with other powers on the world stage.
His leadership was
based on tradition, trust, resolve, commitment and empathy. He was a believer
that the underlying bedrock of Bharatiya Samskriti is strong enough to deliver
the required political, social and economic growth based on its dharmic principles. One can not refrain
from calling him a poet-philosopher king, a Rajarshi.
If we can emulate him a little, this country will
have no crisis of leadership. On his death anniversary I salute his undying
faith in the abilities of our nation.
Jai Hind.
